Amazon EC2 provides the ability to place instances in multiple locations. The instances will begin booting immediately, but they wont necessarily all start at the same moment. Unlike traditional static IP addresses, however, Elastic IP addresses allow you to mask instance or Availability Zone failures by programmatically remapping your public IP addresses to any instance in your account. You can start your AMI on any number and any type of instance by calling the RunInstances API. These snapshots can be used as the starting point for new Amazon EBS volumes, and can protect your applications from failure of single location.

Amazon EC2 reduces the time required to obtain and configure capacity with minimal friction. An Amazon Machine Image AMI is simply packagedup environment that includes all the necessary bits to set up and boot your instance. If you wish to run more than instances, create more than EBS volumes or if you feel you need more than Elastic IP addresses, please complete the Amazon EC2 instance request form, Amazon EBS volume request form or the Elastic IP request form and your increase request will be considered.

Amazon EC2 changes the economics of computing by allowing you to quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as your computing requirements change. Amazon EC2 provides number of command line tools to make creating an AMI easy.
